The Minister of Foreign Affairs of our country stated that there is no monitoring of the military activities of the United States and Israel, and said: Nuclear arms control agreements have lost their previous role.
According to Ashura News, quoted by Mehr News Agency: Seyyed Abbas Araghchi, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, today (Monday), March 6, 1403, during a speech at the 2025 high-level meeting of the United Nations Conference on Disarmament (UNCD) in Geneva, while expressing concern about the serious threat of nuclear weapons and the catastrophic human and environmental consequences, called for maintaining the issue of nuclear disarmament as the highest priority of the United Nations and the international community.
He also called it necessary to conclude a comprehensive convention on nuclear weapons.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs stated: Failure to comply with legally binding obligations related to nuclear disarmament, especially based on Article 6 of the NPT Treaty, will lead to the weakening of the disarmament and arms control regime, and it is necessary for the international community to hold the countries with nuclear weapons accountable for their international legal obligations.
Araghchi considered the spread of armed conflict despite geopolitical tensions to be worrisome and said: Some countries have spent huge sums of money on the production and stockpiling of weapons under the pretext of security, and are helping to repeat the vicious cycle of insecurity and bloodshed in the region and the world.
He added: The Israeli regime has committed the most unprecedented and heinous actions such as genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Israel's invasion of Gaza has led to the destruction of this strip and the massacre of more than 46,000 people, most of whom are children, women and the elderly. Never in history have so many journalists, medical staff and UN staff been killed in an armed conflict. The war crimes, ethnic cleansing, forced displacement and mass starvation committed by the Israeli regime must never go unpunished.
He said: Weapons of mass destruction, including nuclear weapons, in the possession of the Israeli regime are still a serious threat to regional and global peace and security. This prevents the establishment of a nuclear weapons-free zone in the Middle East, which was first proposed by Iran in 1974.
The international community must hold this regime accountable and compel it to join the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty as a non-nuclear member, to completely and irreversibly destroy its nuclear weapons and to place all its nuclear activities under the comprehensive supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs added: Iran once again emphasizes its usual position on the peaceful use of outer space and firmly rejects any attempt to impose unilateral coercive measures that violate the inalienable rights of nations to use space peacefully.
