According to Ashura News, citing Tasnim News Agency, during tonight's match between the Iranian national football team and the UAE in the final round of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, a strange and unbelievable thing happened; the power to some of the floodlights at Azadi Stadium was cut off, causing the Korean referee to stop the game. This issue continued for 28 minutes, and the two teams returned to the field after going to the locker room to resume the game.

This incident occurred in a situation where Azadi Stadium has recently been renovated. However, it seems that the repairs made in some cases were not very thorough. If they had been like this, water would not have leaked from the roof of the stadium or some old problems would not have still existed. The culmination of these indiscretions was the power outage at the stadium during an official and international match.

Saying that the power outage was caused by heavy rain is nothing more than an excuse and justification, because in that case, most stadiums in the world would have to have their power cut off at least once a week. Now the question is why shouldn't we do something principled and correct so that we don't witness such an incident? Who are the ones to blame for this situation and who caused this global disgrace? Whose handiwork is this issue that has now become a subject of laughter and satire in the world?

The Minister of Sports and Youth, who witnessed this historic disaster at Azadi Stadium tonight, should deal with the perpetrators of this incident as soon as possible. Tonight's incident has shown a bad image of our country internationally, and at the very least, we expect the perpetrators to be identified and dealt with.
