According to Ashura News, Farhad Shamani, the Managing Director of Tehran Regional Electricity, referring to the need for major repairs to the Siah Bisheh Power Plant, said: The Siah Bisheh Pumped Storage Power Plant, with a capacity of 1,000 megawatts, as the first and largest power plant of this type in Iran, plays a significant role in the stability of the country's electricity network.
He continued: This power plant, with two storage dams, uses the network's surplus energy during off-peak hours to pump water to the upstream reservoir, and during peak consumption, it directs this water through turbines to the downstream reservoir to provide the needed electricity.
Referring to the fact that this power plant plays a significant role in the stability of the northern regions' network, the official noted: The Siah Bisheh Power Plant contributes significantly to the stability of the voltage in the northern and central regions of the country. When we are at peak load and there are fluctuations and frequency drops, this power plant helps to regulate the network frequency, preventing sudden blackouts.
He continued: Balancing the country's electricity grid during peak and off-peak hours, generating hydroelectric energy with a capacity of 1,040 megawatts per hour of peak load, and providing reliable energy consumption of 960 megawatts per hour of off-peak load are some of the advantages of this power plant.
Pointing out that this power plant is also very effective in supporting the grid in emergency situations, he added: Siahbisheh Power Plant can quickly enter the circuit and generate electricity in emergency situations such as sudden outages or sudden increases in demand. This helps increase the reliability of the electricity grid.
According to Shami, by storing energy and generating electricity during peak times, this power plant helps reduce power outages and increase the reliability of the grid.
He continued: In addition, this power plant can act as a backup for renewable energies such as wind and solar energy and store energy generated during off-peak times. This feature helps increase the reliability and stability of the electricity grid.
He added in conclusion: This power plant has the potential to produce 1,500 gigawatt hours of electricity annually, which will lead to a reduction in dependence on thermal power plants.
