She graduated from the multimedia department at Gaza University. Her work includes working with the Palestine Red Crescent Society and publishing her work in international agencies. She was also an active participant in the Gaza International Exhibition. The news of the martyrdom of this Palestinian journalist was met with many reactions on social media. Media activists described Fatima as "the eye of Gaza that went silent."

Fatima Hassuna believed that a camera is a weapon. She inserts a memory card, which is the same as a bullet, into the camera, and then the camera acts as a gun for her. She believed that she would change the world with her photos. Hassuna also earned the title of "the sniper of moments."

This Palestinian photographer captured the stories of people suffering from famine and siege through the lens of his camera. In a land drowned in death by the crimes of the Zionist regime, he reflected the life, hope and smiles of children.

I want to remain an eternal image

In one of her press interviews, Fatima Hassouna told the camera: “When I take a photo, I am at the peak of happiness. I try to create images that time and space cannot bury. I don’t care if what I do is important to the world or not? Rather, I think about how long the effects of what I do will last? I want to remain an eternal image. I want a death that the world will hear about and that will remain eternal.

Fatum was preparing for her wedding

Salma al-Suwirki, one of Fatima’s relatives, said: “The news of Fatima’s martyrdom was a big shock for everyone. She had lost several relatives in the Gaza war. Fatima had dreamed of traveling and traveling around the world. She had saved some of her income so that after the Gaza war she could travel and perform the Umrah pilgrimage. Fatum was the closest friend of her brother Jihad, who lived in Egypt. Fatima was preparing for the wedding. Fatima was supposed to marry her fiancé next week.”

Love; a medicine to overcome the suffering of war

Hunin Salem, Fatima’s friend and colleague, said: “We loved life and wanted to show the beauty of Gaza through photography. Whenever we went out together, we tried to show hope despite everything. Fatima was very generous and a self-made fighter. She was full of positive energy and loved life very much. Despite the difficult conditions, hunger and suffering, she never complained, always saying: "God will give us food and compensation."

Stating that Fatima was very supportive of her fiancé, Salem recalled: "Fatoum and her fiancé loved each other very much. She used love as a medicine to overcome the suffering of war. Fatima dreamed of building a dream house. Having many children and raising them well."

Journalists insist on exposing Zionist crimes

Mohammad Abu Obeid, Al-Alam reporter in Gaza, told Mehr reporter: Fatima Hassouna took pictures of all areas of Gaza, especially Gaza itself. Fatima considered the Zionist regime a ruthless occupier whose goal is to kill innocent Palestinians and destroy the Palestinian cause in order to dominate all of Palestine.

She added: "Fatoum and the journalists in Gaza, despite the danger and loss of life, believe in one message, which is the necessity of continuing and insisting on spreading the message and cause of Palestine and exposing the crimes of the Zionist occupiers against the children of the Palestinian people."

Stating that the Iranian media are very different from the international media, Mohammad Abu Obeid emphasized: "The international media neither focuses on the reality of what is happening in the Gaza Strip, nor on the justice of the cause and the oppressed people who are killed every day by Arab, American and European weapons, nor does it talk extensively about these crimes. The Iranian media focuses heavily on the massacres committed by the Zionist occupiers against the Palestinian people, spreading the truth about what is happening in Gaza, and promoting justice for the Palestinian cause and resistance."

The most unprecedented war that journalists have ever seen

The Israeli regime’s war on Gaza, which began on October 7, 2023 and continues to this day, is the most unprecedented conflict that journalists have ever witnessed. So far, more than 200 Palestinian journalists have been martyred, with Fatima Hassouna being one of the most prominent of them, who lost her life while documenting.

Fatum wanted an eternal image to remain, and it did! The documentary “Put Your Soul in the Palm of Your Hand and Walk” narrates life in the Gaza Strip. The independent “ACID” section of the Cannes Film Festival was dedicated to the screening of this documentary. Fatima Hassouna, who has been recording and documenting the genocidal crimes in Gaza since the beginning of the recent war on Gaza, was one of the main characters in the documentary in question and was martyred by Israeli airstrikes on her home 2 days before its screening.

The last news published by the martyr photographer Fatima Hassouna was about a cat at sunset. Perhaps he was documenting his last sunset in the land of Palestine, or perhaps he was photographing the gates of heaven.
