According to Ashura News, quoted by Mehr News Agency: Seyyed Abbas Araghchi, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of our country, stated this evening (Tuesday, March 27) in a joint press conference with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia, Sergei Lavrov: I welcome the Russian Foreign Minister and the accompanying high-ranking delegation.
He continued: Our consultations with the Russian Federation are ongoing in all areas. We are consulting on issues of the West Asian region, the Caucasus, and international issues. Today we had detailed, good, and constructive talks and reviewed all issues.
Araghchi added: We are seeking peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia in the Caucasus. The developments in the Caucasus are of interest to us and Russia, and the talks have continued.
Iran’s continued support for the axis of resistance
He stated: The Islamic Republic of Iran has supported and will continue to support the axis of resistance in the region. Resistance groups are fighting for the right ideals and goals.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of our country added: We had consultations on Iran’s nuclear program. Expert and legal teams are in contact and we will continue to do so. As has been repeatedly pointed out, Iran's position on the nuclear issue is clear and we will not negotiate under pressure or threats.
Araghchi, noting that we had constructive and detailed talks and reviewed various issues, said: "We discussed bilateral and economic cooperation, which is progressing rapidly. Our cooperation is carried out in the fields of energy, railways, agriculture, tourism, etc. We also had good discussions on regional issues."
The upcoming meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation Foreign Ministers
The Foreign Minister stated regarding the approaches of the two sides towards Palestine: We had detailed discussions on Palestine and naturally we condemned the crimes of the Zionist regime. The new plan for the forced displacement of the people of Gaza was discussed in our conversation. The united position of the regional countries on this plan has been adopted and the meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation Foreign Ministers will be held soon.
He noted: The views and positions of the two countries on Syria are also close and we want stability, peace and preservation of territorial integrity in Syria. At the same time, the developments in Afghanistan are of interest to both countries. We will also move on the nuclear issue with the cooperation and coordination of our friends in China and Russia.
Araqchi emphasized: There will be no possibility of direct negotiations between us and the US on the nuclear issue until maximum pressure is applied.
Increase in trade exchanges between Iran and Russia
Sergei Lavrov continued: Despite the pressures resulting from sanctions, trade exchanges increased by more than 13 percent last year. We hope that this trend will increase.
He continued: "In today's meeting, we reviewed international and regional issues. The two countries are trying to resolve conflicts at the global level based on the UN Charter. We also discussed the JCPOA today. The capacity for diplomacy still exists and these capacities must be used and we will help find solutions."
The situation in the West Bank is unacceptable
The Russian Foreign Minister added: "In today's meeting, we reviewed regional issues. The situation in the Middle East and the Palestinian territories worries us. The situation in the West Bank is unacceptable. Asia and Iran support free trade and encourage increased trade between the member states of this union."
He said: "We express satisfaction with the measures taken by the Iranian side before the start of the construction of the Astara railway and hope that this project will start with the provision of a Russian state export loan; this will be an important step towards launching the North-South corridor."
Lavrov added: "There were also discussions on cultural and educational cooperation, and we hope that the programs of the Russian Cultural Days in Iran, which will be held in June, will be warmly welcomed by Iranian citizens and will be used."
He said: "International and regional issues were discussed. Russia and Iran are determined to resolve global issues based on the UN Charter and relying on the principle of equal sovereignty of states."
Syria's territorial integrity is important
Lavrov said: "We talked about Syria and we agree on stability in this country. The inclusiveness of the process is important, and we must wait for the results of the Syrian National Assembly to clarify the goals of the Syrian government. Military confrontation is still ongoing in some places. We will support calm, and the territorial integrity of Syria is important."
Stating that we discussed the situation in Ukraine in this meeting, the Russian Foreign Minister noted: "We appreciate Iran's balanced position, which is based on an accurate understanding."
