Baqaei: Commenting based on political views is not appropriate for the Atomic Energy Agency
According to Ashura News, quoted by Mehr News Agency, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmail Baghaei said in a press conference, referring to the funeral ceremony of Martyr Nasrallah, while congratulating the month of Ramadan, "The Foreign Ministry has been actively working to secure Iran's national interests in the last two weeks, and the most important event in our region was the grand funeral ceremony of the Secretaries General of the Lebanese Islamic Resistance and the significant participation of the people of Lebanon and other countries in this very grand ceremony. As you saw, a high-ranking delegation from the Islamic Republic of Iran was also present. Good meetings were held on the sidelines of this ceremony.
He added: "The Foreign Minister's trip to Geneva was to participate in two events, the Disarmament Conference and the Human Rights Council, and meetings were held on the sidelines of these meetings."
Baghaei emphasized: "We also had the visits of the Foreign Ministers of Russia, Malaysia, and Sudan to Tehran. Meetings of Deputy Foreign Ministers were also held in Tehran and in other capitals."
Iran's perception of the Trump-Zelensky meeting
Baqai said about Donald Trump's humiliating negotiation with Zelensky and Iran's perception of this event: Everyone saw this event and everyone can have their own perception and interpretation of the manner of the discussion and the topics raised in that meeting. What is important for us and our region is that security is an endogenous matter and the countries of the region must take action to ensure stability and security in the West Asia and Persian Gulf region with their own help and relying on endogenous regional and national forces, and in this regard, we cannot look to any third party with hope and reliance. This has always been Iran's policy and we have always emphasized that security is not a commodity that can be imported from somewhere.
The Foreign Ministry spokesman stated: "In terms of international relations and law, it is a wake-up call to answer the question of whether international relations and politics are going to return to the 19th century? When only power, intimidation, and pressure were the basis for interaction between countries."
Baqaei continued: The two world wars, the first and second, and the consequences that these two wars caused the entire world to come to the conclusion that it should curb war, intimidation, pressure, and the use of force, and manage relations between countries with the rule of law.
The Lebanese resistance is a very helpful and empowering part of the Lebanese government
Regarding the relationship between Iran and Lebanon, he said: Our relationship with Lebanon as a member of the United Nations is based on recognized international rules; we have a close relationship with the Lebanese resistance, and we believe that the Lebanese resistance has been and is a very helpful and empowering part of the Lebanese government. The relations between the two countries are good relations. If any talk is heard, both sides discussed each other with a special perspective and tried to resolve misunderstandings.
Turkey should think more about the effects of its policies
Regarding the tension between Iran and Turkey, Baqaei said: We value bilateral relations with Turkey very highly. We are aware of the importance and existence of mutual interests in these relations between two neighboring and historical nations. The two countries have been able to resolve differences of opinion and viewpoints with a wise approach without damaging relations.
He continued: "The talks we heard and unfortunately repeated many times were unconstructive, and therefore it was necessary for Iran's position on this matter to be clearly and decisively stated. We are witnessing the consequences of what has happened in the region in the last three to four months, and we are seeing them more clearly day by day in terms of the actions of the Zionist regime in the region and in Syria. It is necessary for our Turkish friends to think more about the results and effects that have been imposed on their policies."
Baqaei emphasized: "What should be of concern to us, Turkey, and others is that we can create a safe and conflict-free region. We are determined in this direction and believe that Turkey is both aware of and concerned about the importance of maintaining and promoting bilateral relations based on the national interests of the two nations. We hope to continue this path with each other's help."
Regarding the visit of one of the Afghan jihadi leaders, he said: "Afghan society is a diverse society. It is not strange for someone to travel to Iran, and this was a therapeutic trip."
Changing the name of the West Bank cannot eliminate the realities on the ground
Regarding the decision of the US Foreign Relations Committee to change the name of the West Bank, the Foreign Ministry spokesman said: Changing the name cannot eliminate the realities on the ground and create a delay in it. The West Bank and Gaza are parts of historical Palestine, and their belonging to the Palestinian people cannot be doubted or changed in any way.
He continued: "The efforts to change the name are in line with the fact that American politicians are seeking to eliminate Palestine, and these can be considered as signs of the US government's approach in helping to commit crimes against humanity and prevent the fundamental rights of the Palestinian people, and this entails the responsibility of the US government in terms of international law."
Grossi to act within the framework of the agency's legal authority
In response to a question from a Mehr reporter about the Foreign Ministry's position on the recent IAEA report and the statements of its Director General that Iran is acquiring a nuclear bomb, Baghaei stated: "Our expectation from the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency is to act within the limits of his authority and duties in accordance with the Agency's statute. Expressing an opinion based on speculation and political speculation is neither within the authority of the Director General nor does it help resolve the issue and inflames the space for constructive interaction." He said: "Iran's nuclear program has been proven many times and it has been determined that it is being carried out in accordance with the frameworks of international law and the Safeguards Agreement and the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. The Agency has all the necessary facilities to conduct its monitoring. Using these expressions, which have been proven to be incorrect, does not facilitate the work." Baghaei continued: This movement is within the framework of the demands that some Western countries made during the Board of Governors resolution, and this indicates that the origin of these reports is political, and we will wait to see what will happen in the coming weeks in terms of the Agency’s decisions and we will have appropriate reactions based on them. Commenting based on the political views of some countries is not appropriate for official international authorities and the Agency.
In response to a question about Zarif’s resignation, the Foreign Ministry spokesman said: “You certainly do not expect me to talk about the interpretation of other parties on our internal issue. Mr. Zarif presented their own views.”
Regarding some claims about Iran’s nuclear discussions, Baghaei stated: This dual issue of diplomacy versus an option other than diplomacy was an issue that was raised more or less during the negotiations. Iran has always been committed to a diplomatic approach and we have never had a confrontational approach in this regard. Because we are confident in the peaceful nature of our nuclear program.
Regarding the upcoming meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation Foreign Ministers in Jeddah, the Foreign Ministry spokesman added: "This is the second meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation to be held at the request of Iran and regarding occupied Palestine. The difference between this meeting and previous meetings is that some plans have been raised to relocate the Palestinian people. Earlier, meetings have been held at the Arab League level, and the Jeddah meeting to be held on Friday is a good opportunity for this discussion."
He continued: "The unified message will be that the Islamic community will not agree to any ethnic cleansing in occupied Palestine, and this meeting will pave the way for a unified and firm position to oppose such plans. These plans are nothing but genocidal plans."
Regarding the Russian Foreign Minister's visit to Tehran and the issues discussed, he added: "Lavrov's visit was within the framework of the plans that were made. During his visit, a diverse set of bilateral and multilateral issues were discussed. They expressed their positions in detail in his press conference." It is normal that the nuclear issue, Syria, Gaza and issues related to international relations are on the agenda. Regarding nuclear issues, we also reviewed the latest issues. Russia is a member of the JCPOA and the Security Council. Whatever it wants to do regarding Iran’s nuclear issue will not be done without Iran’s presence, so our friends are aware of this issue.
We are in talks with Russia about Syria
Regarding Russia’s mediation between Iran and Syria, Beqaei said: “It is natural that the Syrian issue was included as one of the developments in the region in the talks between us and Russia. Our position on Syria is clear and we emphasize preserving the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Syria, so that Syria does not become a haven for terrorist groups to abuse.”
Regarding the Gaza issue, he said: “The Gaza issue is not an issue of one country or several countries, but an issue of humanity. On a smaller level, it is a regional issue. The Palestinian people make decisions to protect themselves and prevent the destruction of Palestine. The entire international community is concerned about this issue. Gaza is an issue that has affected the conscience of the human community, so the entire international community is morally and legally obligated to prevent its destruction.
The Foreign Ministry has a special look at the economic capacities of African countries
Regarding the use of the capacities of African countries, Beqaei said: Africa is very important to us; both as a continent full of capacities and opportunities for diplomatic and cultural exchanges and interaction, and for its economic capacities. In the 13th government, Shahid Raisi had a trip to Africa, which was a turning point in the continuation of relations with Africa, which will be continued in the 14th government. The economic diplomacy department of the Foreign Ministry has a special look at the economic capacities of African countries. Our goal is to continue this process.
Regarding the Zionist regime's plan to divide Syria, Beqaei said: In our opinion, any action to undermine territorial integrity and national sovereignty is rejected and condemned. This issue should be taken seriously by all countries in the region and the regime should not be allowed to exploit the current situation in Syria to advance its ambitions and plots to spread insecurity and create instability in the region.
Regarding the situation of a number of Iranians who have been deported from the United States and sent to Panama, he said: "We have both the ability and the desire to help them. The Office of the Protection of Interests in Washington has announced its readiness, and the Iranian ambassador to Colombia, as the ambassador-at-large in Panama, is closely following the issue. We are in contact with the relevant authorities in Panama and have said that we are ready to help in any way we can. The deportation of these people is against all human rights standards, and we have expressed our protest and are still following up on the issue."
