The Deputy Chief of Staff of the Judiciary announced the pardon, reduction, and commutation of sentences for 1,526 convicts of general and revolutionary courts on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr, the ancient holiday of Nowruz, and Islamic Republic Day.
According to the Ashura News of the Tasnim News Agency, Ayatollah Khamenei, the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution, has agreed to the request of the Judiciary Presidency to pardon or commute the sentences of 1,526 people convicted of crimes on the occasion of the ancient Nowruz holiday, Eid al-Fitr, and Farvardin, the Islamic Republic Day.
Explaining the details of this news, Hojjatoleslam Walmuslimin Ali Mozaffari, the Deputy Chief Justice of the Judiciary, stated: In implementation of Article 11 of Article 110 of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Iran and on the occasion of the ancient Nowruz holiday of 1404, Eid al-Fitr of 1446, and Farvardin, the Islamic Republic Day, the request for pardon and commutation of sentences for 1,526 people convicted of crimes in the general and revolutionary courts, the Armed Forces Judicial Organization, and the State Penal Organization was sent to the Supreme Leader by the Judiciary Presidency, who agreed to these pardon proposals, and these convicts were subject to Islamic punishment.
He added: Of these, 1,457 were convicted by the Revolutionary Court, 16 were convicted by the Armed Forces Judicial Organization, and 53 were convicted by the Government Penal Organization.
The Deputy Chief Justice of the Judiciary stated: Among those pardoned, 46 were sentenced to death, whose sentences were confirmed and were in the execution stage, and who were subject to Islamic pardon and mercy, as well as the favor of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, and their sentences were commuted to imprisonment.
He continued: The crime of these individuals (those sentenced to death) was mainly related to drug crimes.
Hojjatoleslam Walmuslimin Mozaffari emphasized: Of the total number of recently pardoned individuals, 13 were foreign nationals and 66 were women who were subject to pardon and commutation of sentences.
He noted: In total, the cases of 567 convicted individuals will be closed with the Supreme Leader’s pardon and these individuals will be released, and 959 individuals will be subject to reduction or commutation of sentences.
Hojjatoleslam Wa Muslimin Mozaffari continued by reporting on the review of 17,057 pardon requests by the Central Commission for Pardons and Pardons of the Judiciary in 1403 AH and said: Of these, 12,322 requests were proposed to the Supreme Leader by the Judiciary Presidency and were included in the Leader's pardon.
In explaining the process of reviewing pardon requests, he also stated: Pardon and pardon requests are first submitted to the provincial pardon and pardon commissions and, after provincial review and approval by the members of this commission, are sent to the Judicial Deputy of the Judiciary.
These requests are then reviewed by the Central Commission for Pardons and Pardons of the Judicial Deputy of the Judiciary and in a special commission that is formed weekly, and if the legal conditions are met, they are proposed to the Judiciary Presidency.
After approval by the Judiciary, the aforementioned requests will be sent to the Supreme Leader for final approval, and with his approval, pardons and reductions in sentences will be considered in these cases.
