According to Ashura News, citing Tasnim, Taliban leader Haibatullah Akhundzada stated in a conference in Kandahar that the release of two American citizens is conditional on the release of one remaining Afghan prisoner in Guantanamo.

Mullah Haibatullah said in an audio tape broadcast on the issue of American prisoners: There is one Afghan prisoner in Guantanamo. There are two Americans imprisoned here. They tell us to release these two safely. We say release our prisoner safely, why don't you?

Following the visit of the US delegation to Kabul and the agreement to remove three Taliban leaders from the "Rewards for Justice" program, the Taliban released an American who had been in their custody for more than 2.5 years.

Experts say that after Washington failed to release its prisoners through economic and political pressure on the Taliban, the Trump administration has finally given in to the Taliban's demand in exchange for the release of an American prisoner.

In their negotiations with the American side, the Taliban demanded the cancellation of the million-dollar rewards from the United States for their leaders, and the Trump administration ultimately agreed to this Taliban demand in exchange for the release of one prisoner.
