Politico wrote that serious discussions are underway about the fate of the White House national security adviser after the leak of classified information about US attacks on Yemen.
According to Ashura News, citing Mehr News Agency, Politico, referring to the leak of classified information about the US attacks on Yemen, wrote that serious discussions are underway about the future of Mike Waltz, Donald Trump's national security adviser. According to Politico, citing informed sources, the discussions are so serious that the option of Waltz's resignation is not far off.
A senior US government official told Politico yesterday that they are in correspondence with a number of other government officials about Waltz. The Politico report was published after the Atlantic's bombshell news about a major gaffe by one of the top White House advisers. The Atlantic wrote that the senior official, who was later introduced as Mike Waltz, inadvertently added Jeffrey Goldberg, editor of The Atlantic, to the list of people present in a private group on the Signal messenger about the military attack on Ansarullah in Yemen!
“Half of them (government officials) said he (Waltz) would never survive or should not survive,” the senior official told Politico.
According to two senior White House advisers, Waltz should resign to avoid putting the president in a “bad position.” No decision has been made, and Trump will make a final decision in the next day or two, Politico reported.
“It was reckless not to check who was in the group,” the source added. “It’s reckless to have that conversation on Signal. You shouldn’t be reckless when you’re the national security adviser,” the source added.
According to Politico, a person close to the White House was even more blunt, saying that “everyone in the White House agrees on one thing: ‘Mike Waltz is an idiot.’” A third source said Trump had spoken to Waltz and the White House is standing by Waltz right now.
White House spokeswoman Caroline Leavitt said yesterday: “As the president has said, the strikes against Ansar Allah have been extremely successful and effective. The president continues to have full confidence in his national security team, including National Security Advisor Mike Waltz.”
According to another source who spoke to Politico on condition of anonymity, Waltz’s fate will largely depend on how Trump personally feels about the issue. House Speaker Mike Johnson also told Politico that Waltz should absolutely not resign.
Earlier, CNN’s Alaina Trinh wrote on the social network “X” that Trump has no plans to fire Waltz. US Defense Secretary Pete Hegsett also denied the leak, claiming that no one sent any sensitive military information in the virtual conversations!
The Atlantic editor wrote in a report that he received a request to join Signal on March 11 from someone named Mike Waltz. He was then included in a group called the “Houthi PC small group,” which appears to include other senior administration officials, including Secretary of Defense J.D. Vance, Trump’s vice president, and Tulsi Gabbard, the director of national intelligence, among others. According to Goldberg, PC stands for principals committee, and generally refers to a minority group of the highest-ranking national security officials.
Over the next few days, Goldberg wrote, “interesting political conversations” took place in the group, and on March 15, Heggest sent a message detailing the attacks on Ansar Allah, including targets, weapons, and an approximate time for the attacks to begin.
Goldberg said that Brian Hughes, a spokesman for the National Security Council, had confirmed the existence of the group on Signal. Hughes wrote that “the chain of messages appears to be authentic and we are investigating how a random number was added to the group. The chain of messages indicates deep and precise policy coordination among senior officials. The successful operation against Ansar Allah demonstrates that there is no threat to forces or national security.”
The United States launched a series of strikes against Yemeni Ansar Allah positions on March 15. According to the US Central Command of the terrorist forces in the region, the operation was carried out to protect American interests and ensure freedom of navigation in the Red Sea. In response to these attacks, Yemeni Ansar Allah launched a series of attacks using missiles and drones against the US aircraft carrier “Harry Truman” in the northern Red Sea.
