According to Ashura News, citing Mehr News Agency, Seyyed Abbas Salehi, Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance, left for Rome on behalf of President Masoud Pezzekian to attend the funeral of Pope Francis.

In a message on the occasion of the passing of Pope Francis, Masoud Pezzekian expressed condolences and sympathy to the global Christian community and followers of the Catholic Church, and mentioned his lasting efforts in promoting peace, justice, dialogue, and coexistence of religions.

The President also praised the Pope's humanitarian positions, especially his clear condemnation of the crimes of the Zionist regime in Gaza, and emphasized that his memory and name will remain in the hearts of the awakened consciences and freedom-loving people of the world.

Pope Francis, the leader of the world's Catholics, who had played a prominent role in promoting interfaith dialogue in recent years, died on Monday, May 25, at the age of 88 in the Vatican.
